A subway tour might not sound all that appealing but Stockholm’s subway stations are literally a work of art. Many stations have huge murals, sculptures and plenty of other details to look at when waiting for your next train.
If you aren’t in Stockholm long, you probably won’t pass through many of these stations, but some are well worth going out of your way for. You can get a 24 hour ticket or, if you don’t plan on using the subway much, you can purchase a 75 minute ticket, just to view the artwork.
Here is a streamlined tour route to explore some of the best station art within that 75-minute ticket window. This is pretty much the route I took when I visited in 2019 so I know it can be done! Just figure which stop is nearest to your to get started and make sure you leave enough time to get back where you need to be. You should have enough time to get off at each of these stops and wonder around while you wait for the next train.

If you have time, I’d also recommend visiting the following stops on the Blue line:
- Solna Centrum
- Hallonbergen
- Kungsträdgården
These stations are the most spectacular stations that I came across but 90% of Stockholm’s metro stations are decorated in some kind of artwork – sculptures, murals or engravings, so there should be plenty more for you to discover!
